Professor Wrestling: TNA 'Turning Point' Results

'Mafia' Takes On TNA Originals

Listen up!

Class is in session.

Sting. Kevin Nash. Booker T. Kurt Angle. Scott Steiner. Together, they're TNA's "Main Event Mafia," a heel faction (Sting -- a heel?) trying to show the kids in Orlando how it works.

"Turning Point," TNA's October pay-per-view, unleashed these former WWE/WCW stars across the card Sunday night. What happened? That's why I'm paid handsomely:

Podcast: 'Old School, New School' -- Episode 91

Challenge Match: Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Rhino
What Should Happen: Rhino isn't pleased with Bashir, an unabashed America-hater. I say Rhino beats him silly until gas goes down to $1.60 a gallon.

What Will Happen: Rhino in a post-election no-brainer.

What Did Happen: Rhino creamed him. And I saw $1.87 gas down at the corner.

TNA Tag Team Championship Match: Beer Money Inc. (c) vs. The Motor City Machineguns
What Should Happen: The MCM's (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) are about a thousand times more talented than BMI (James Storm and Robert Roode). But BMI is the established heel team, and there's really no reason to take the belts off of them. I suspect there will be cheating by the bad guys after they're pummeled for a while. That's how they should win.

What Will Happen: BMI prevails.

What Did Happen: Beer Money got the pin.

Falls County Anywhere Match: Abyss vs. Kurt Angle
What Should Happen: This is the first of the "Mafia" versus "TNA Originals" matches, and it's not a bad pairing. Abyss is fairly Kane-like in his lummoxy delivery, and Angle should have no problem carrying him to an entertaining spectacle. Angle should win, however. He's still head and shoulders better than most in the game.

What Will Happen: Angle will suffer incredible pain at the hands of Abyss, but he'll win in the end.

What Did Happen: Angle gets battered, but wins anyway -- pinning Abyss.

Legends Championship Match: Booker T (c) vs. Christian Cage
What Should Happen: Booker created this belt out of thin air to honor himself and other "Legends." Cage -- who isn't taking sides in the "Mafia" war -- decided he wanted the first crack at Booker's crown. Cage should win, just to hack off Mr. T.

What Will Happen: I like Christian Cage in the upset. If he loses, he has to join the "Main Event Mafia."

What Did Happen: Cage lost. Now he has to join MEM.

Challenge Match: Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Nash
What Should Happen: God love him, but Kevin Nash shouldn't be wrestling. He just doesn't move fast enough, for my tastes. A lot of that is his size, a lot of that is his battered body. Joe, meanwhile, needs to hook up with Jenny Craig. He reminds me of the great Kent Hrbek, who ate his way out of baseball's Hall of Fame. At any rate, Joe is still one of the best wrestlers alive, and should have no problems in this match. For him to falter would suspend my disbelief.

What Will Happen: Samoa Joe will wear down and pin his former friend.

What Did Happen: Nash won this event. I'm now convinced wrestling is fake.

TNA Championship Match: Sting (c) vs. A.J. Styles
What Should Happen: Sting, a member of the "Mafia," is sadly beyond his prime -- but I say he should retain this title. Styles, a TNA great, shouldn't ascend back to the top just yet. We should let this play out for a while. I like this concept of WWE/WCW geezers versus the TNA meatheads -- but the bad guys have to be in charge for a few more months (a year?) before things flip the other way.

What Will Happen: Sting will retain his TNA title.

What Did Happen: Sting took it, giving the MME a clean sweep in this PPV.

That’ll do it. Hey, look at that! Another card, and barely any wrong predictions on my end. I rule!

Need another wrestling fix? Then check out the latest edition of the PW podcast, "Old School, New School." It's Episode 91, co-hosted by mat madmen Dr. Mike Lano and George "The Authority" Schire. Get your copy RIGHT HERE.

Nothing more to see here. Leave the apple and scram, because this class is … dismissed!
