A teenage boy is hospitalized Saturday after he and a young woman were stabbed on the Fourth of July in Coronado Cays, a police dispatcher said.

The 16-year-old boy and 21-year-old woman were found lying on the street at Coronado Cays Boulevard and Bahama Bend around 9:45 p.m. Friday, said the dispatcher with the Coronado Police Department.

They were found just blocks from Silver Strand State Beach. The beach was full much of Friday as people celebrated Independence Day at the last public beach in San Diego County that allows alcohol.

The boy was flown by a medical helicopter to UCSD Medical Center, the dispatcher said. The woman was taken by ambulance to the same facility, where she was treated and released.

Five suspects were detained for questioning but were let go later, according to the dispatcher.
