DMV Plans To Stop Saturday Service

The Department of Motor Vehicles announced Friday that due to the state budget crisis, it will close all of its field offices that normally offer Saturday service, including four in San Diego County.

On the third Saturday of each month, 53 DMV field offices statewide are normally open from 8 a.m. until noon.

Because of the state's inability to pass a budget and staffing constraints, the DMV has decided to close its field offices, including those in Chula Vista, San Diego, Clairemont and Oceanside, on Sept. 20.

The DMV took a similar action last month.

California's budget is more than two months overdue as the stalemate between state Republicans and Democrats draws on over how to close a $15 billion budget spending gap.
