Earthquake Hits Near Palomar Observatory

Three earthquakes, the strongest with a magnitude of 4.1, rocked an area of northern San Diego County Monday.

The first of the temblors centered about 10 miles north of Palomar Observatory, just north of the San Diego-Riverside county line, struck at 4:35 a.m., said Caltech seismologist Anthony Guarino.

Two milder quakes -- with magnitudes of 3.8 and 1.2 -- occurred in the same locale at 9:41 a.m. and 9:46 a.m., respectively, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no reports of damages or injuries.
