Loren's Louie Logs

I read a news piece recently which reminded me it's Alaskan King crab season and it's one of the most environmentally sound fisheries.

In other words, it's carefully monitored to make certain the crab population recovers before the next season. And since so many crab fishermen die catching these things, it almost seems patriotic to buy and consume this tasty meat.

I came up with this more manly variation while making a crab Louie salad for my wife. It makes a great appetizer or a picnic style way of eating crab.

  • 1 head romaine or Iceberg lettuce
  • 2 lbs crab (4 people)
  • Thousand Island dressing
  • Avocado
  • Onion (cut paper thin)
  • very thin spears (tooth pick sized) of cucumber (seeds removed)

It's pretty simple. Place a large leaf of lettuce on a plate. Place crab, a slice of avocado , a very thin slice of onion, and cucumber on top and fold/roll the lettuce like a burrito. Dip or dribble the dressing on the Louie Log and eat. You should have a log which looks similar to a small green burrito or egg roll.

Caution: this is seriously good eatin'

Serve with sour dough bread and a good Savignon or Fume blanc or Riesling
